This season marks the 43rd year the equestrian farm is offering the SUMMER HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAM, a summer camp for area youngsters. Starbuck Equestrian is located on one of the oldest and most scenic country estates in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
The children’s day will consist of approximately one hour of formal horseback riding lessons, followed by ground instruction in the riding ring. Following the ring instruction, the children will have either stable management or arts and crafts. Stable management focuses on horse care and maintenance, grooming, and horse anatomy. Starbuck Equestrian will utilize both outdoor riding rings for the summer of 2017. Riders will head indoors and use the two indoor rings during inclement weather. At the conclusion of the two weeks camp, there will be a show for the parents to come and see.
The beginner classes have an instructor to student ratio of one to four. The advanced beginner and intermediate rider classes have an instructor to student ratio of one to five. Each class has their own riding ring. Teaching for the summer are Kara Mikitarian and Amanda Terbrush.
Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Starbuck Equestrian will be offering five, two-week long sessions. Starting dates are: June 19th, July 3rd, July 17th, July 31st and August 14th for the two-week camps. Cost of the camp is $895 per two-week session with a $500 non-refundable deposit to reserve a spot in the desired session. The balance of $395 is due the first day of camp. If available, the one week session is $500. Children must be ages 6 and over.
